To identify the pulmonary vein ostium during contrast injection, the balloon is inserted against the entrance of the pulmonary vein. To identify the edge of the pulmonary vein ostium and ensure that the balloon is not distal inside the vein, the balloon is pulled back to the left atrium during contrast injection until the dye opacifies the edges of the pulmonary vein ostium.
